Report on a third inspection visit to the new Évrange cricket ground
Tuesday, 16 October 2007
Present: Bryan Rouse, David Crowther
The Évrange cricket ground is improving with every visit. On the sunny, dry day of our latest visit, it looked very good.
- The outfield improves with successive mowings. The grass is already much denser than it was on our previous visits, and the tussocky appearance, typical of hay meadows, is going.
- The lower-lying part of the ground is being landscaped by the local vole population. Though a nuisance, this is a normal rural phenomenon which will be solved by a cyclical population crash, with the help of the local raptors.
- We tried a spot of practice bowling on the strip. The bounce - at our gentle pace at least - was unremarkable.
All in all, the Évrange ground is progressing satisfactorily and will, as we remarked in an earlier report, continue to improve with use and regular maintenance.
